Hmmm....never occurred to me that there might be a reason the plug popped, other than the machinist screwing up the install. I suppose a leaky head gasket could allow combustion gases to escape into the water jacket and build up pressure in the water jacket and pop a plug? Or would the radiator be damaged first?
As for damage to the engine, I hope there is nothing scored. The oil pressure stayed right up at about 30 - 35 psi the whole time. Normally it is running at about 40 - 45 psi, so it didn't drop much even with the high temp.
