Evaporation. Simple as that. Fuel evaporates out of the bowls through the breather holes. Mine does the same thing. I have a 76 w/400ci and a 4bbl Carter AFB off a 66 Caddy. Just pump the gas twice, pull the choke, and fires up whether it's -20 outside or 50 degrees. Haven't had a problem yet and we've been driving it in Co weather (my dad and I) for 26 years!
