Lots of good advice from all. I like the goat one. They do the work for you. They'll eat the weeds and forbs while leaving the larger trees and grass alone. Instead of mowing grass you'll be fencing and chasing them off the roof of your Power Wagon. Depends on which you prefer doing.
The older tractors, like the N, are a good idea too. Simple, practicle and good looking (like Power Wagons). But in some locales they are "collectable" and have become pricey (like Power Wagons). They are easy to work on and find parts for usually. Just be sure and get one with the 3 point hitch like Mike advised. The major drawback to a pre '70s tractor is the lack of a ROPS or Roll Over Protection System. Your "moderately hilly ground" may require a wide and low tractor with a roll bar and seat belts. While early tractors were'nt factory equiped, they can be retrofitted. You can also add fluid to tires and weights to wheels to keep you hugging the hills. The newer 4x4 small size tractors with front end loaders are extremelly handy and effective but seem to be the choice of everybody with 3-10 acres of yard (at least here in KY) and may not be cheap.
If you don't live on the land the plan would be to let nature work for you maybe. Livestock may not be practical do to regular care. Our Fish and Wild Life Dept will come out and burn off to encourage native grasses and the prarie effect. Keeps the natural cycle from turning your patch into hardwood forest. Depends on whether you want it manicured or wild. Also depends on whether you need an excuse to buy a tractor or not (or another Power Wagon, plow, etc for that matter). OK, I've told you more than you asked for already. Have fun! KB
