Your second experience sounds a lot like mine in 1997... I was eventually told (when I called to complain that some items that left Alabama bolted to the trucks failed to arrive in North Carolina) that they had fired the guy responsible for managing my haul. They also stated that they were upgrading the equipment and would not be using the subcontractor that they hired for part of my haul again...
The attitude on the other end of the phone didn't bother me as much as the cluelessness of person on the other end...
