Yes, yours should have DODGE stamped into it. I think the only gates that didn't have 'DODGE' on them were the WC's with pickup beds.
My '49 tailgate (1st series bed) has DODGE stamped into it in small/thin letters surrounded by an oval/square stamped in that runs the entire width of the tailgate. I think that later gates used a different font and different sized oval, but I'm not sure of which series bed it started with.
I've also read that the early 1st series beds have a different tailgate than the later 1st series bed. But I haven't been able to confirm this nor have I been able to find out what constitutes 'early' vs. 'late'.
I can e-mail you a pic of my gate if you wish. I beleive it to be original to the truck.
