if the brake adjustment cams at the 10 & 2 o'clock position are fully retracted, the rubber cups can go past their intended stroke area and flud gets behind them. in addtion, check for improperly assembled cylinders. sometimes there are no springs cup expanders or the cups are installed backward. sometimes the wheel cylinders that you get are foreign shitters that wont seal no matter what. if you added up what you have spent so far on shoes, drums, parts, lost time and frustration, discs look a whole lot better and the price becomes more reasonable. i know there are some purists that want to maintain the drums. i say good for them, a pure restoration is commendable. i had drums on my command car and my m37 and lived with poor performance and high costs of operation and maintenance unitl rays discs came out. i have enjoyed being able to stop and i dont get in my truck anymore with fear that when i push down on the pedal that it is going straight to the floor. it seems as though you are going with drums, so my best advice is to adjust your cams, and see where your linings are in relation to the drums. if you cant fit the shoes in the drums with the shoes properly adjusted top and bottom, you need to have the linings made to fit. you should never have to hammer the drums on. in the military books on the wc and m37 they have a machine that shapes the linings on the truck to fit. good luck finding someone today who perfoms that service. i suspect that anyone who did it is now dead from asbestos inhalation. an eccentric shape on the shoes is ideal as the round shoes become eccentric when the cylinder applies pressure outward on the shoes. stick with it and you will straighten it out. any help or advice, ask the experts here. good luck. mannyc
