Dave: You do not indicate the year of your W300, but from 1958 to 1968 the W300 used a NP 201 transfer case and from 1968 to 1974 the W300 used a NP 205 transfer case. Both of these TC's have PTO ports (10 hole for 201 and 6 hole SAE for 205) on the driver's side, and that is where the factory typically installs the PTO to drive the front winch. Doing so gives you 4 speeds + reverse on the winch, so an alternative to a tranny-mounted PTO on your 540 is to use a TC-mounted PTO for the LU-2. More options. Good luck!
