If your winch is like most other electric winches, the lead to the brushes needs positive power while one of the other leads (Blue) needs positive power to drive the winch in one direction. To reverse direction, disconnect the first lead (Blue) and connect the other lead (Yellow) to positive. Connect the motor frame to the negative terminal of your battery to complete the circuit. This is from memory (faulty at the best of times), so be careful when connecting power to your winch.

The solenoid pack does all of the connecting and disconnecting of the Blue and Yellow leads for you when you push the winch control button.
