12 to 6 volt reducer – Standard #RU-100
Ballast Resister - Standard #RU-10
4 terminal solenoid - Standard #SS581 (optional)

The reason the coil is getting hot is that you are running the full 12V into it. You need to plug the ballast resister into the wire going to the coil to reduce the current.

You need the 4 terminal solenoid. One of the small terminals "I" is for by-passing the ballast resistor when starting so you will get the full 12v for a hot spark, but reduced when running. The wire goes from that "I" terminal to the coil side wire of the ballast resistor. Good Luck!
