One possibility:

The pto without the rear output shaft might be from a WWII 3/4-ton WC Dodge, which uses the same transmission as the late 40's Power Wagons (straight-cut spur gear tranny and pto). I have a WC pto in my '49 flatfender and it works fine, but it has no rear output shaft, since it was not thought that the troops during the war would need to be running any farm equipment off the back of their trucks. The WC pto is not as heavy duty as the Power Wagon pto's. I am basing this assessment on my observation that the gear teeth are not as wide and the shafts and bearings are not nearly as big in the 3/4-ton pto as they are in the Power Wagon pto's. But it will work fine for winching purposes.
