Hello Eric,

Same as the water pump. Whenever the leads have been disconnected from a generator or after a generator has been repaired, it must be polarized. It is important that the generator be polarized before starting the engine. This will ensure correct polarity and cause current to flow in the proper direction to the battery. An easy place to do this is at the regulator. Momentarily jump with a jumper lead from Battery terminal of the regulator to the (ARM)/(GEN.) terminal with the engine stopped key on. That will get it flowing in the right direction. Check your amp gage if is going in the wrong direction it is wrong.
