When I first bought the truck, there were only 2 wires on the alternator, and no ground. The battery left us stranded in the middle of an empty road on a very cold night. When I had it checked, the NAPA dealer showed a charge rate of 14.5volts, but he had 3 wires hooked up, one being a ground to the alternator. When I hooked it back up I installed a ground wire to itself, and it charged...at 50 amps. Cooked a battery on the way across Kansas, and been cooking them since.I will try disconnecting the alternator ground and see if that helps. Thanks for the info.
