I have never used a steam pressure washer but this past week I spent two days pressure washing new curbs and gutters with a cold water pressure washer that was equipped with an 11.0 horsepower ohv Honda engine. The pw was new though I do not know the psi. I had just bluetopped (fine finish grading) a parking lot for a newly constructed Walgreen's drug store and then installed 1200' of curbs and gutters. Asphalt pavers then paved the lot. Cavalier would best describe their installation. Soil cement, liquid top coat and asphalt were everywhere over parts of the curbs for the entire 1200'. I had to wait one week for the asphalt to cure before I could clean.

The rented pw I used would carve channels in the one month old cement curbs. I cannot imagine that a cold water pw would not clean old oil and grease from an engine compartment. In fact, I could see that thin sheet metal (on some automobiles) could be bent by such pressure.

The top of the line pw that Home Depot in my area sells is 3600 psi. It has a 13.5 horsepower ohv Honda engine. Their next smaller unit has 2600 psi with a 6.5 hp ohv Honda motor. Are you certain the pw you used is not defective?
