a book called "Back Attack" will tell you more than you want to know about backs. Maybe out of print? but could be in the local library (or Amazon?).It's written by a New England neurosurgeon, but does not push surgury. Lots of factual info.
From my personal experience,Pain all the way to foot and muscle atrophy means "TIME TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT".
After 2 disc surgeries, now the first one is blown again. my cause seems to be related to muscle myopathy,I've always been stiff, now at 49 I'm too achy to work on my command car so I'm a 'virtual' mechanic.
