I currently have a 350 chevy and there seems to be plenty of room. I used block hugger headers to make it less tight. In addition a put in a chevy 4 spped tranny. Similar to Pauls situation with the PTO, there are clearance problems with the bell housing and the PTO shaft. Im still working on that issue. I used to have a 283 in the truck from 1973 to 2002 and found it had inadequate torque compared to the flathead 6. The 350 has a few add ons and is about 360 hp, so far it seems good but I havent had it on the trail yet. Good Luck Alan
