I did not really find it a tight fit. I have 3 1/2 inches from fan blade to radiator and 3 1/2 inches from back of valve cover to fire wall. Side clearence is NOT a problem.

The clearence problem comes in with you want a PTO winch. Without a winch, you can use a NP-420 tranny and change the input shaft to the long one (15 minute job). However, you will not have room to clear the bell houseing for the PTO on the NP-420. So if you want a PTO winch, you will have to go to another tranny such as a NP-435. On this tranny, the PTO hangs down lower and will clear the bell housing. You will have to buy a Chelsea Series 352 Bi Directional PTO for $435.00 from Brookline Equipment. Then you will have to change the drive line from the PTO to the winch as the PTO output shaft is larger than original. We could not find a
larger yoke to change on the Universal. The drive line change was under 100 bucks.

Email me off line if you need more details and parts sources. The 318 is a power house in the PW with 4.89's. My Pw will climb our mountain dirt road up 1600 feet in 4th gear all the way and never lug.
