I am relatively new to Dodge mechanical work, but I have seen Ford drums that had two or three small screws that were used to hold the drum in place. These were screwed through the drum into the axle flange. It has been a long time since I worked on that truck, but you might look to see if such screws exist. if not, then it seems the heat method is still the best.
