The mains on the 383 and 400 are the same size. The cranks are interchangeable with the correct balance flywheel. Only difference is in the bore size. You have to either bore out the main saddles or cut the mains on the crank to put a 440 crank in a 400 or 383 block. I know because I have a 400 block with a 440 crank. We cut the mains on the crank for this one. It is the cheapest and easiest way to do it and it does run circles around the original 383.
