There are a row of spot welds along the lower edge of the windshield channel. Then there welds between the front of the door post area to the dash. I have not done it, but have decided my course of action for this winter. I will be changing the dash and head panel (where the wiper motors are).
Careful drilling the spot welds and a die grinder for the others should release the dash. I believe it can be done, not quickly, but worth the work. When I finish this winter I will post how the job went. Not much help to you now. I feel its better to tackle this than to weld up lots of holes
for switches and guages. A bottle of Irish Cream might be a big help.
