We had a previous discussion on the 70's trucks a ways down the forum.

I say go for it! These trucks are getting older and hard to come by. Get yours all restored now and the value will only go up.

Trucks are holding value no matter what they are or condition. I would like to think 8000$ would be way more then enough to get it all done. Although more complex then the older trucks a 1974 is still really basic and not hard to work on. 99% of the mechanical parts can still be bought at the local parts store.

most body parts can be bought new. Step side beds can be redone but regular long and short beds seem to be very hard to find and or fix. You can get patch panels to fix wheel well lips that have rusted on the beds. New tailgates can be found but thats the only parts I have been able to locate.

Most of the stuff involed in restoring your 1974 will be your time. Take the bed off and start sanding and cleaning the frame.

This site should give you some ideas.....

I have a 1974 D200 I am wanting to tear down and restore.

I also have a 1976 D200 regular cab long bed parts truck if you need any small parts let me know. The cab is free to anyone that wants to come get it!
