You need a book on checking trouble codes. Usually prettty simple, like turn the key on and off 12 times, then count the blinking lights or wiggles on the voltmeter.The onboard computer usually knows whats wrong (bad M.A.P. sensor telling it to run rich? O2 sensor not putting out 1.5 volts?) Then take this info to Auto Zone store and the counter man will give you a printout of how to check the components with simple tools- voltmeter, flashlight battery, etc. Thier printout will be more helpful than any book I've ever seen, including the dealership's, they depend on a computer. Only flaw in thier system is that it is not accessible by internet, they want to get you into thier store .
