I took the numbers from the Don Bunn "History and restoration Guide" into my local automotive paint suplier to try and duplicate "Dodge Truck Dark Green". This place has been in business for many years. They told me that all of the numbers in that book are obsolete and cannot be cross referenced to new numbers. (Their books only go back to 1959). They also said that the base used for the paints back then is different from the base used nowadays so even if they could cross the numbers that it would not do any good anyway. They said that they could match the paint by trial and error mixing. I saw some of the sample parts where the owner had mixed a little and dabbed it onto a part that still had good original paint. In every case, by about the 3rd try, he was right on the money. I then told him that my truck had black primer under the original paint. He said that in order to correctly match the paint, black primer would have to be used again under what they mixed or the outcome would be slightly different.

Not trying to rain on anyones parade, but this is what a professional paint supplier told me. Also be careful with the popular Power-Wagon books out there, they contain ALOT of mistakes.

Clint
