I hate to be the one to break the bad news to you, but...the serial number that is to be found on the frame rail, as indicated by previous posts, may be rusted beyond legibility. This usually happens on trucks in which the battery has spilled acid on the frame rail. If there is not a thick layer of paint or undercoating on the side of the frame rail beneath the battery box, and instead you find rust scale, then you may never find a number that you can read.
