Why not keep the original 24 volt system? Tthen you don't have to replace any guages. the original System was designed specificaly for the truck, and is one tough system. The parts to repair your 24 volt system are almost definatly cheeper than downgrading to twelve volts. Just my opinion good luck with whatever you decide to do.
