I think it is the little plug just an inch or two up from the bottom. The big gear carries the oil up like a Ferris wheel. I have a Braden owner's manual which naturally I can't find at the moment. It calls for gear oil at least one step heavier than you'd run in your diffs. I.e. 140 for temperate climate use. Even 180 or 260 for extreme duty in the tropics! Obviously for Alaska I use normal stuff, 80W-90 or 85W-140. What I have done is get a big bolt for the top with a little threaded hole like 1/8" pipe (I drilled and tapped the one on my F350). Then put in a barb fitting and run a vent hose up a couple of feet, maybe inside the engine compartment, and put a breather doodad on top. Then fill the gearcase up maybe a third or even more. The real problem with overfilling is that they'll warm up and blow every seal in an orgasm of gear oil. It needs air space to damp the pressure rise with temperature. It really should have a breather. I doubt something turning 7 or 10 rpm is going to destroy itself because it's immersed in oil instead of dipping it's toe in it. Don't overdo it and fill the thing up more than a third or so. One nice side effect is that my sealed gearcase winches always have leaked during and after heavy use. They don't do that now, not any more than when they are resting. This project costs about $2 if you have drills and taps.
