Engine Swap

I own a 76 PowerWagon. It has a 400 engine with no performance mods (recurved Dist), engine was rebuilt 50,000 miles ago. It is a manual 4 speed. As we all know mid 70's engines are not the most powerful. As I am looking to upgrade my engine to maybe a late 60's 383, or a late 60's 440. My question is, Is the 400 classified as an R/B engine??? Which engine will fit (Bolt in) without changing the Bellhousing???
