Just because you can register a pre-75 vehicle in Alabama without a title, does not automatically title such a vehicle after its registered.
You take your "bill of sale", register the vehicle, they give you a tag and a tag reciept & and registration slip, and thats all you get. To have a vehicle titled,that was not previously titled is more involved and you may be denied a title. For all practicle purposes the vehicle is registered for legal use in Alabama but,if any pre-75 vehicle could be brought to Alabama and only with a "bill of sale" be TITLED, every stolen car in the country would be titled through Alabama. Long ago this was possible but that is no longer true.
Anyones best chance for success in getting an actual title would be to have both matching #s on the frame and cab vin. plate.
We should all be concerned about this topic as our trucks gain value. As is it is far too easy to take the frame and tags from a parts truck and make a stolen, mint PW, a legal truck. Both frame # and cab vin.# plate really should match. There are issues with damaged frames and cabs but they have been resolved by other car and truck clubs as I know we can. It is food for thought.
