Big block swaps can be done. after all, it's only steel. You will find it a REAL tight fit and either the radiator needs to go forward or the firewall back, your choice. 383 and 361 are awful light on torque for a truck this heavy but they spin the higher RPMs with relative ease. The RB's (413, 426 and 440) have more poop with a heavier truck and are torque monsters in comparison. As the old saying goes, "there's no substitute for cubic inches but cubic money". The 413 and 440 have the longer stroke which is spelled "torque". The downside is, that "torque" can twist the spline right off'a your axles and then you have a REAL problem! On the other hand, so will a 318 if the clutch is improperly applied. Ya pays yer money, ya takes yer choice...
