Need the 318 Lowdown

Have been busy gathering up the parts to convert one of my PWs to V8 power. I have read the Helitool info and will use their kit once critical mass on parts is reached. .

What I am looking for now is a good 318, dual port 435, and a suitable reversable PTO.

What is the lowdown on 318s? Are they all the same physical size? Are some years more desirable. Do I need one with the deep part of the pan in the front or the rear? Did they make high performance versions. Etc Etc. Is there a website that lists the engine serial number by years and hp?

TIA for any info and does anyone need a hydraulic bell housing and/or a NP 435 with only one port.
