The truck you are referring to is a Truck-Tractor, 10 ton, 6X6, M-123, made back in the 60's for the military and was used for hauling heavy equipment and tanks of that era. Intially they were gas powered but were repowered with Cummins V-8's sometime in the 70's. From the transmission back, the drive train was made by Mack. 5 speed transmission, 2 speed transfer, and if I remember right, the front axle had planetary reduction hubs to match the rear third members. Some models had one rear winch while many had two rear winches. There was also a cargo truck version to (the M-125). The M-125's were mostly used with the old towed 155mm artillery units. Both the M-123's and M-125's were BIG trucks, and the ones I remember spent alot of time at DS level maintenance, but when they were running, they sure got the job done. When the Engineer units at Ft. Hood, Tx. got new M-916 and M-920's back in the early 80's, the guys were saying that they would rather have kept the old 10 tons (the M-123A1C's) because they were able to go through alot more places off-road with them as compared to the M-916's and M-920's. Up here in Anchorage, I have seen one that someone stretched the frame on and added either a pusher or a tag axle to it. Someplace with my collection of old Army Tech. Manuals I've got the -34 Maintenance Manual for the M-123/125 10 ton trucks. Robert
