Welding question

I bought my bed angle strips from Mar-k and I think they are stainless steel, even though I didn't order them in SS. Reason being they have a SS marked on them in magic marker. Question is can you weld normally, SS to the steel of the bed side? Also is there a way to tell if these are SS? They are not a bright finish, kind of a milky oxidation look to them. I'm not sure what they should look like in raw or zinc coated steel. How can I tell?
