Have you ever noticed how our PWs ride like an empty dumptruck without a load in them? Well at 80mph they just kinda float and any dip or bump which would normally rattle your teeth, suddenly feels as if your in a big caddy. As I said, I wasn't running a gov. under the carb so unless you've ever run a big 6 without it you don't have any idea how much faster it'll go. It had a spitfire replacement engine that was there when I got it,so it could have been a 265 instead of a 251 which will push a PW a goodbit faster and quicker than the weak.ss little 230.
I was running a straight pipe from the exhaust manifold to the back of the truck (no muffler) and at the claimed 80mph, it sounded like a spitefire aircraft I've seen in the movies. I was excited and in fear at the same time. As I was passing cars I looked over at them and the shear amazement on their faces as this old truck came roaring past them was the greatest! In the back of my mind I kept hoping and wondering , will this truck hold together? Well it did and for at least 10-15 sec. I was a test pilot pushing that PW beyond the known threshold of PW speed.
