cliff, it sounds like maybe through the years and lots of vibration (worn/broken tailshaft mount)the tapped holes have worn.ifthis is the case you have a couple of options. the first is to find what fits the best. then thoroughly clean the threaded holes with brakleen or laqur thinner.then pack the holes and bolts with locktite(being sure to lube the bolt threads with a release agent).install the bolts but do not tighten too hard.let set up then torque in place. i've had varrying success with this . the next option is a helicoil repair/tailshafthousing replacement. i'm sure someone out there has some other ideas.c'mon guys lets hear from you! good luck , jim.
