Hi,
I had the fun with the tow truck. For those that weren't there, we were going down a deeply rutted road, and every one was sliding into the ruts (at least the few vehicles before and after me). This wasn't a problem for the Dodges as they all had sufficient clearance. The Jeep Cherokee got high centered. The exhaust and front and rear axles were resting on the ground.

I backed up as close as I could till my rear axle was digging into the ground, and then we hooked the J hooks to the Jeep's axle and put some blocks of wood between the frame and the chains to minimize the damage to the bumper and sheet metal below the bumper. As I lifted the lift, it pulled the Jeep towards my truck. We did this about three times till the Jeep was tight against the lift. Then I lifted it up and pulled it out easily. I had a little trouble un hooking as I forgot to undo the safety chains that hold up the lift, but once we undid those, it came right off. There was small dent left in the bumper, but other than that, I don't think there was any other damage.

I had a great time. It was the first time I had my '70 W300 in 4 wheel drive, and the first time I used the lift on another vehicle (it is great for lifting my NV4500 project). My wife was quite scared at the beginning of the trail ride, but afterwards calmed down, and later had a good time.

A big thanks to the organisers of this event!

Bob Gardiner

I saw someone taking pictures. Maybe they will show up here on the forum.
