After my grandfather passed away it was brought to my attention that none of my Mom's siblings were interested in 'Pappy's Junk in the garage'. This was a disappointing to me because Pappy had tons of tools, some of which belonged to my Great Grandfather when he ran a service station in the 40's and 50's.
I was able to save most of my Great Grandfathers big tools from the auction block; 6 ton Walker floor jack w/ matching jack stands, a GREAT creeper with 50+ years of patina (I wish that thing could talk), unknown model roll around battery charger that has been re-wired for 12 volts, 3-ton chain fall and some misc. hand tools.
I used all of these tools when I was a boy working with Pappy in the garage. Learning the proper tool for the proper job, how to take care of them and listening to the stories of the jobs the tools had done through the years. These garage sessions gave me an appreciation for all tools, their use and care. I hope my children have the same feelings I do when it comes time to take care of 'Pappy's junk in the garage'….
