Hmmm...Very odd. I have a made in China engine hoist, as well as many others I know, and we have not had problems like that with them yet. I bought mine back in 1995,and have used it VERY Hard since then! I mean hard as in back in high school when I played with Dodge Onmi Cars for a while, I would use the engine hoist or "cherry picker" as we call em' to pick up either the front or rear of the car and set the jack stands under it. WHen I did this, I set alot of weight on the back of the engine hoist to keep it from tipping and it worked fine. Never had a problem and it was quite safe too. I THINK the heaviest load I had on it was a 366 Chevy Tall Deck V8 Industrial engine, with a 5 speed clark trannie on back. It was a bit tipsy, but I never had a lick of trouble with it. I have used that hoist hard for over 6 years, and it is still holding up fine. It has kinda bent a little, but I have overused it. When I went to get it, I noticed it had a 3 ton ram. Well I talked to the store manager and for $35. more I subsistuted a 8 ton ram for the 3 tonner. That really helped alot...Over the years I have not even blew a seal in it. It has held up very well for the use (and abuse) it has taken. I also bought a made in China transmission jack that has also worked very well. it sure does beat using a floorjack with a board on it.

I dont care for the made in china engine stands tho. Those tend to be too tipsy for anything larger than a small V6.

I prefer to stick with USA hand tools. I mostly use Craftsman, BUT when I run across used Snap-On, SK, or Mac tools at yard sales and such, I snap them up!
