In Kansas there is an Air Brake test you can take to get the Air Brake certification. I hear its a written test.

Now in Kansas and maybe possible in your state also is what my friend did. He has a race car and a big enclosed trailer. He wore out his 1 ton Chevy dually. The 454 was eating him a live in gas and had been through all the rear end troubles and tranny troubles. After looking at new duallys for $40000 dollars he decided to look at other options.

He came across as 1994 Freightliner Conventional with stand up sleeper. Has a big cat in it. A for real OTR Semi truck for 5000$ with 600000 miles on it. He got it tagged as an RV at 26000lbs and welded a hitch on the back of it and now pulls his race trailer with it and gets about 14 mpg with the big rig. No strain on the truck when pulling. Truck is probably good for another 400000 miles and it will take him 20 years to do that.

You might be able to get your truck registered as a RV and bypass a lot of the CDL stuff. Insurance is also much cheaper in RV status.
He still has to stop at wiegh stations and cant haul more then a few hundred gallons of race car fuel (HAZMAT & CDL) but other then that he is good to go. We have questioned wether he has to have the Air Brake certification on his license but as an RV you dont in kansas and thats what this truck is now an RV!
