Does anyone know anything about building OTR tractors...

I have the opportunity to get a '57 D-900 Tractor with no motor or transmission. Fellow just wants it out of his place. It's basicly gutted but has a good frame and running gear and decent sheetmetal. I was thinking of a long term project of doing a complete refurbishment and installing a diesel and making a Power Wagon hauler out of it. Get a lowboy trailer and I can haul 2 PW's at once! I've seen good used Cummins 250 turbo diesels out of M-35's for around $2000 another $500 or so for the Spicer 5 speed overdrive. Is that a good motor? I dont know anything about big truck diesels, so I could use a little guidance. Also this tractor has air brakes, so would I need some type of Commercial license? I see many people driving freightliners around with thier winnebagos hooked up and I know they cant have a CDL...
I have a aluminun sleeper and a rear mount winch ready to go on it.
Is this sounding like another project I will never finish?
