Hello, I located one of the larger flathead engines at a local salvage yard and will be smashed friday so I need some info. It is either a 251 or the 264. Measurements are as follows.
Block: 12.5 inches tall and 25" long
28" from bell housing (back of engine) to front motor mount.
32" from back of engine to front of pulley.
Looks just like the powerwagon engine with manifolds and all. Has the same starter but the oil filter is a bit different.
Bell housing and transmission are attached to it. It is a 5 speed transmission with 2 synchros but does not have a place for a PTO unfortunatly. From what I understand it is from a 50's Dodge truck of some sort. Engine ran last time it was in something (who knows when) and oil is dripping out) It does not say spitfire. What was different about the spitfire engines? Any idea what engine it is?
Would this be a good candidate for a swap into a 47? Something inside of me just says stay with flathead and for some reason this seems more stock to me and doesn't really seem like I would be modifying it.
How much more power can you get with these?
He wants $75 for it and I am sure it would need rebuilt.
Thanks,
Drew
