I would go for the Spitfire engine. It does not have those offset piston rods. It is a larger engine (25" vs 23"). if you have a NP420 tranny from a WM300 it has synchro in 3rd and 4th gear. The PTO (for synchro transmission) has a helical cut input gear and the PTO from the older trannys have a straight cut input gear. I made this mistake myself. You would need some WM300 parts (radiator support, front engine support and misc parts) in order to complete the swap due to the increased length of engine. I hope this helps.
