Hi Cliff, since nobody really tackled it, I 'll try; The wheel size 6.5 X 16. The first size is the distance inside bead to bead of the wheel, the second size is the diameter of the bead (15-16-16.5-17- 19.5-21 or whatever, in inches)
The TIRE size such as 10 X 36 -16.5 is the TREAD width first, tire Diameter second, and wheel bead diameter last. Also there are conversion charts on most tire manufacturers web sites to convert the newer metric &%@#!* sizes to the old system, such as P310-78-16.
(width first, sidewall bias as a % of width second, and bead diameter last) Hope this helped.
