The M37 has a shorter wheelbase, which can be an advantage. It also has softer springs, which articulate more. Plus it is a rag top, so you can go topless in the summer. Sheetmetal damage is a consideration. While not exactly plentiful, sheetmetal for th M37 seems to be easier to find than that for the PW. It depends on how rough you intend to be.

The M37 is a "tactical truck". It was designed to go anywhere on a battlefield. It postdates the 1947 PW, and has some changes. I would think it logical that the M37 took the basic PW design and improved on it for off road conditions.

Still, there is no denying both are very capable trucks. I think you'd be well suited by either. Boh have been quite successfully used for off roading.
