After you have the correct vehicle, 90% of offroad ability is driver experience. I remember watching old GI vets in the 50's (they must have been all of 28 years old by then!) drive their old WWII surplus trucks and Jeeps all over the desert and never get stuck. And this was with 5.50 wide mud tires. These guys could go anywhere and everywhere, places where a "full built" 4x4 with Swamper tire could barely go today. I love watching these 'hotshot' guys beat-up their trucks, smash frames, dink sheet metal and generally tear up their junk gm and ferd trucks, ..while I low range around their stuck carcass at 3 mph! Hollister Anyone?!
