As mentioned, there are two sets of holes at the front to accomodate the 251/265 or the short block 230. The Canadians very wisely used the bigger 251 engine. If the holes are not completed drilled out, they are probably at least marked.

This engine can also be outfitted to look military...just check out a Canadian truck.

With this change, I would definitely opt for the 4.89 gears. The bigger engine can pull this easily and this will cut your revs by 20%

By the way, I think the Canadian trucks used different transmissions also.
