Mike,
Kinda weird that the 3\4 Chevys didn't have problems as they use the same frame as a 1/2 ton. 1 ton were different though. Cracks on frame around the steering gear were commonplace. Made worse when you run bigger tires as more force is put on things. Had a 3/4 frame break completely in front of the front rear spring pearch. We were under exteme circumstances though. 3 ton over the rear axles bouncing over plowed ground.

We switched to Dodge and never had frame break problems. Bad trannys, useless steering "rag" joint, and firewall fires from voltage regulators were common. I guess every model has their week points.

We had a '93 3/4 4x4 Cummins that had a problem with the anti-lock brakes. Happened to me 3 times and once to 2 other people. you would approach a stop and hit the brakes and the pedal would go straight to the floor, as in no brakes. Give it a couple of minutes and it would kick the pedal back and work fine. No fluid loss or anything. Dealer denided problem as it never would do it when they had it.(always!) Anyone else ever hear of this? We nick named the truck "Death Wish" for obvious reason. Always had to be ready to use the Emergency brake as a back up. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who had this happen to them. Thanks, Kevin
