'59 W-100 locking hubs, what are they made of?

I just bead blasted the hubs on my truck and they look great without the 40 plus years of grime, they do not look like steel and there was no rust, too heavy for alumimum. Any ideas? I believe they are original, they have a diamond shaped pattern with two handles that pop out and rotate to lock the hubs. Thanks, Joe in NH
