Actually in the olden days ( last Wednesday with my memory) The manufacturers recommended locking in your hubs periodically for a an hour or so to ensure lubrication of those normally stationary parts.
However the only time you should RUN with the hubs locked, when not in 4WD is when you know that you are going to encounter mud or some other situation where your Gucci loafers will get dirty. Anyway, most of us could use the exercise.
