It depends. Earlier versions of the WC 53 had different front axles than later ones. There was a change from the smaller ring and pinion to the 9 5/8 ring and pinion. They seemed to be using the smaller ones in the front axles for awhile before switching to the 9 5/8. The rear axles all had the 9 5/8 ring and pinion. Later versions had 9 5/8 ring and pinion in both front and rear axles. Thru time there were some differences between having bolt on differential covers and ones that were welded on. Mine is an earlier one with the smaller ring and pinion in the front axle (Same r&p used in the 1/2 ton WCs) and bolt on differential covers.

The 9 5/8 axle components are basically the same ones use in the Civilian PW (Flat fender WDX, WM300 etc.) with the exception that the WC 53 had a centered differential in the rear axle so it has different axle shafts. You will also find different styles of joints in the front axles. Any style joint with fit into front axle housing if the axle shaft length is correct. I have never seen model numbers for the axles or differntials. In fact I asked that question on this forum awhile back and no one responded.
