Awhile back, on this forum (I believe), There was a discussion on T-case mounted OD units. This method would allow one to keep the original engine, tranny w/pto,and T-case.
You should get a later model sync NP420 to replace the early model non-sync NP420 of the WDX and B-1PWs.
One retro that was very interesting was that the early to mid-40s WCs had the centered diff. and when swaped into the WDX-WM300 PWs, allowed you to drive it via the in-put shft that has the emergency brake mounted to it. What you would have is power from the eng. straight through the tranny, straight into the T-case and out the back. this reduces the friction and power loss due to the idler to other output shaft and also reduces the noise factor. If you found a later model sync NP420,a centered diff. WC axle and modified a OD unit to bolt to the T-case and take the place of the output shaft bearing retainer flange, you'd have exactly what you wanted and possibly be able to sell a few units or the adapters for the OD unit to T-case. The reason you might want a centered diff. is that the axle shafts would be interchangable and shorter and less likely to break under stress as the one long one might in the offset diff. Maybe someone could get that past info to you?
