I've had good luck using a long spout bottle, like a Zoom Spout bottle or squeeze bulb. If the valve is up, just pour the fluid on the top of the valve, it will run down the valve stem and flood the valve guides. It takes more patience this way, but it's a lot less work than pulling the head.
